Object Archive
An ongoing photographic and editorial study of objects shaped by human hands, practical purpose, and the passage of time.
Through photography, research, and close observation, the archive examines what objects can reveal about the people who made, used, repaired, and left them behind.
What remains tells a story.
WHY THE ARCHIVE EXISTS
Objects outlast the hands that made and used them.
The Object Archive began with a fascination for what remains after the owners have moved on. Through photography, measurements, and research, Guildmark examines evidence of craftsmanship, engineering, design, and use – preserving fragments of shared history that might otherwise disappear.
THE ARCHIVE METHOD
Follow the evidence
Each study is built from what can be observed, photographed, measured, and documented.
01
Observe
Materials, construction, markings, measurements, and condition are recorded directly from the object.
02
Photograph
Full profiles and close details preserve visible evidence of form, use, wear, and repair.
03
Research
Marks and construction are compared with catalogues, museum records, and documented sources.
04
Interpret
Observations, documentation, and interpretation remain distinct. Unresolved details remain unresolved.
